A terrible road accident
Sumona / Staff reporter, Jhenidah, December 13, 2018:
A terrible road accident took place on the highway in Katlagari at 10 am
yesterday. A passenger bus (Kushtia –Ka-3456) was rushing towards Jhenidah. At
that time, a loaded truck (Dhaka –Kha – 8563) from the opposite direction
collided with the bus in full speed. The front sides of both vehicles were
totally smashed. Five people including the helper of the bus named Khalil (33),
Rashed (38), Julekha Khatun (40), Abu Taleb (32) and a young boy (15 – yet not
identified) died on the spot and fifteen people were injured.
About one and half hour later the police of Shailkupa Thana reached the
spot. They sent the dead bodies to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
Also, the injured were sent to admit into Shailkupa Hospital. A case has
already been filed.

Drug addiction in Jhenidah city has become a serious problem. Open
selling and buying and taking drugs are a common picture of the city. Numerous
people especially the young generation are becoming addicted to these deadly
drugs. Drug addicts are found everywhere in the streets, in the parks and even
in the educational institutions. Unemployment, lack of family ties, political
unrest, social unrest etc are the main reasons for it.
Besides, some big guns of the city have become involved in this heinous
business. The police mysteriously remain inactive. As a result, the number of
addicts is increasing day by day in the locality and different types of crimes
like kidnapping, hijacking, snatching, robbery, misbehave, terrorism etc are
committed greatly. The young generation is losing their morality. They are
being destroyed physically and financially and led to death. In this
circumstance, to make the city drug-free, the local people expect a prompt punitive action from the govt. against the drug businessmen.
