A national flag is the symbol of independence and sovereignty for any country. When people living in a specific territory achieve their freedom, they are recognized as a sovereign nation. Like every other free nation, Bangladesh has its own national flag, which serves as our national identity and represents us to the world.
The shape of our national flag is rectangular. The ratio of its length and width is 10:6. We achieved this symbol of independence through a glorious yet bloody liberation war in 1971. Our national flag is typically made of cotton, linen, or silk. It is a beautiful combination of two colors: bottle green and red. The deep green background represents the everlasting youth, freshness, and vigor of our nation, as well as the lush greenery of Bangladesh. The red circle, placed slightly towards the hoist, symbolizes the rising sun of freedom. Moreover, the red color commemorates the supreme sacrifices made by our heroic freedom fighters who bravely fought for their motherland.
We hoist our national flag every day atop schools, colleges,
madrasas, universities, and government offices. On Independence Day and Victory
Day, it is hoisted with great honor and respect. However, the flag is kept at
