About five lace slum dwellers in
Dhaka city are leading an inhuman life. Yesterday visiting several slums, it
was found that they have been suffering a lot of problems every day. Malibug
slum is such a slum. There are only three tube-wells here for about 2000
people. As a result, they are suffering for want of drinking water and they
have to drink polluted water. Here the sewerage system is also very bad. There
are only twenty insanitary latrines here. So, they discharge here and there and
diarrhea, dysentery,
cholera etc. hit the slum in an epidemic form. Electric facility is also very
insufficient here. They have to bear scorching heat in summer, heavy rainfall
in rainy season and acute cold in winter. They are also deprived of medical
facilities. Even the children here are deprived of the light of education as
there is no institution. Many criminals
take shelter here and lead drug business and different anti-social activities.
So, their sorrows know no bounds. Govt. should take a hand in the matter.
