The Selfish Giant and the Kids

The Selfish Giant and the Kids

Once there was a selfish giant who had a large and beautiful garden. The garden was full of soft green grass. Here and there all over the grass stood many colorful flowers like stars. Sweet birds chirped in the garden all day long. It was an attractive playground for the wonderful innocent children. After returning the school, the school children and Kids used to visit and play there and it turned just like into a heaven.

The giant had gone to visit his friend’s house for some days.  One day, when he returned home, he found the children playing in his garden. He was very selfish. He became very jealous and could not bear this beautiful sight. He thought himself, “My garden is my own garden.”

He got angry and shouted, “Hey kids, what are you doing here? Leave my garden immediately. I will allow nobody to play here but myself.” Then he drove the children away from his garden and built a high wall around his garden. Then he put up a notice board declaring that “TRESPASSERS WILL BE PROSECUTED.”

All the children were shocked much and unhappy. They stopped playing there for the fear of the giant. But the immortal God could not bear this sort of atrocity. So, after this incident, green grass became fade; no flowers bloomed, birds stopped singing and the garden turned into a barren. He became alone. Three years passed but no spring came to his garden. He thought and thought- “Why the spring has left my garden? Why no flowers are blooming?

One morning the giant woke up his sleep and heard a sweet music and songs of the birds. The sweet smell of the flowers tickled his nostrils. He was so surprised that he came out of his room and found his garden in gorgeous green shape. And also the little children were playing there. After all, the entire environment of the garden looked so stunning and amazing. He became really impressed discovering himself in the natural green chirping world.

Suddenly he noticed a little boy crying for not being able to climb a tree before him. The giant stepped gently to the boy, kissed him and picked him up on the branch. He felt a heavenly pleasure in his heart and understood his selfishness. He realized the reason of not visiting the spring in his garden.

So, He broke the wall and allowed all the children to come and play in his garden as long as they wish as before. Seeing the greatness of the giant, the children became very much pleased and came again. They started playing and the garden got back its previous charming shade.
